Cup Final Season Roundup

Cup Final Season 2023/24 Roundup.

Over the past eight weeks we have hosted thirty different county cup finals, we’ve witnessed 121 goals across all fixtures, we’ve visited seven different venues and watched players from as young as U12, to players over 35, playing with heart and pride to secure their team silverware. But most importantly, we have witnessed the local community come together to embrace the love and support for football on and off the pitch.

Hosting 6 youth girls games, 13 youth boy fixtures and 11 adult cup finals throughout April and May has certainly been busy, yet we have loved every second. But what were some of the standout moments throughout the 2023/24 cup season?

One favourite for us here at Hampshire FA was a fixture played on Sunday 19th May at Winklebury Football Complex. The Meon faced East Christchurch SSC, in the John Ward Sunday Senior Cup sponsored by Industrial Boiler Services Ltd, in which we saw a six-goal thriller. However, the standout highlight came from the double hattrick within the game from The Meon’s Max Davies and James Cowen. Davies and Cowen really kept us on the edge of our seats with some spectacular finishes. Equally we witnessed late drama at Clayfields as Hythe managed to win a penalty in added time, which was not only the final kick of the game, but the decider for the Russell-Cotes Benevolent Cup, sponsored by Harold G Walker Solicitors.

Finally, we proudly witnessed history being made at Stoneham Lane Football Complex with Farnborough Women’s beating Bursledon Ladies 3-1 to take home our Hampshire FA Women’s Trophy, sponsored by Hampshire County Women’s Football League. But what makes this so special, is because it was Farnborough Women’s first ever season as a team.

The Hampshire Cup Finals 2023/2024 have truly been spectacular, it has bought the community together from all over the county and been an entertainment gift for all those involved. We have felt that, as Jimmy Bullard would say, football is always the winner.

From us here at Hampshire FA, thank you to everyone involved and we look forward to what the 2024/25 Cup Finals season has to offer.
