World Mental Health Day Tournament 2023

Hampshire FA and Havant & East Hants Mind will once again team up to host a football tournament in aid of World Mental Health Day.

On Wednesday 11th October, Hampshire FA and HEH Mind, will once again host a small-sided (18+ and mixed) football tournament at Winklebury Football Complex, the home of Hampshire FA. The tournament will be 5-a-side, taking place from 9am – 4pm, with the aim of illustrating the importance of mental wellbeing and supporting our teammates within sport, particularly at grassroots level. The cost to enter the tournament is £20.00 per team with all monies donated to our charity partners, Havant & East Hants Mind.

The event will consist of a morning briefing and talk with representatives from the charity, followed by small-sided fixtures out on the 3G pitch, lunch and networking and finishing off with a team activity. This year, we are introducing a World Mental Health Day word search, co-produced by the association and charity and complete with a prize up for grabs for one lucky team that manages to get the most words in the allocated time slot.

The aim of this event is two-fold; firstly, to give the individuals involved the opportunity to get active, have fun and network with other teams in attendance. Additionally, the event will offer the participants the opportunity to talk to the dedicated Mental Health First Aiders present should they wish to have that 1-2-1 personal contact.

The event will be every bit informative, highlighting the many services and support groups offered by the charity, for the community. Members in attendance will also find out more about the Ambassadors in Sport programme delivered by HEH Mind.

One such success story has been Solent Sports FC, Hampshire FA’s Partnership of the Year Award winners and last year’s World Mental Health Day tournament winners, for their work with the charity. Solent Sports FC has used their extensive database of players and contacts to train several Mental Health Sport Ambassadors. The organisation has helped train over 40 ambassadors, supporting various clubs around the county in raising awareness of mental ill health as well as signposting individuals to receive the required help and overcome personal battles.
