Calling All Potential Referees
Hampshire FA is seeking a workforce of enthusiastic referees to help make football happen!
Whether you’re thinking about becoming a new referee, or you’re a previously-qualified referee that is thinking about making a return to the game, Hampshire FA is here to support you all the way!
Here’s everything you need to know about becoming a referee this season:
WHY BECOME A REFEREE
Refereeing is a great way to stay active, improve your physical and mental wellbeing, and keep you closely involved in football.
As a referee you enable football to happen, giving over 100’000 players in Hampshire alone the opportunity to play the game we all love. In enabling them to play, you will have the opportunity to make a positive impact on all of these players’ lives, as well as increasing participation in the sport as a whole.
On top of this, you can expect great support and progression opportunities to work your way up through the football leagues, the chance to make lots of lasting friendships from the refereeing and wider grassroots football community, and of course some extra financial income from your match fees.
QUALIFYING AS A NEW REFEREE
Anyone over the age of 14 can become a referee and it’s never been easier to take the first steps. If you’re considering becoming a referee, you should do three simple things (all free and online so you don’t even have to move from the sofa!):
1. Complete the free, online Laws of the Game Guide
This online learning is the ideal introduction to the Laws of the Game and will help give you a sense of what to expect from the in-person training further down the line.
COMPLETE THE LAWS OF THE GAME GUIDE
2. Complete the free, online Safeguarding For All course
This tells you all you need to know about how you can keep football fun, safe and inclusive for all.

3. Register Your Interest in The FA Referee Course
Once you have completed this online form, a member of the Hampshire FA Refereeing Department will get in touch to discuss potential course dates for you to take The FA Referee Course (your in-person training).
The process above is no obligation. If, after any of the above steps, you decide that refereeing is not for you, you do not have to go on to complete The FA Referee Course.
