The Taking Football to Africa and Beyond Charitable Appeal was set up in 2006 at RAF Shawbury near Shrewsbury with the aim of collecting football kit no longer wanted by service personnel and sending them to Africa for those less well off.
The Appeal quickly gained traction and went global the following year. In 2009 the first delivery trip was organised to Kenya to try to set up better links. Since then, the Appeal team have taken over 70 people on 13 visits to Kenya delivering kit. All who travel pay their own way as the Appeal is completely self-financing.
Kit is donated from clubs across the UK from the England team/FA to leading Premier League clubs down through the pyramid to grassroots level including individuals.
