HAMPSHIRE FOOTBALL ASSOCIATION SUNDAY INTERMEDIATE CUP FINAL
Vienna Suttoners 2 Soldiers Return 0 - played at Westleigh Park home of Havant and Waterlooville F.C. on Sunday 28th April 2019
This final turned out to be a very close game between two similar sides and as a consequence and despite the fact some nice football was played and both sides created chances, neither goalkeeper were bothered too much!
Some excitement was created in the 36th minute when Soldiers Return's Ben Allnutt worked his way through the Vienna Suttoners' defence and his shot was saved at the expense of a corner. When the corner came in it hit the bar and bounced down to be cleared.
The breakthrough came for the Vienna Suttoners in the 55th minute when Jamie Morgan opened the scoring.
This prompted a flurry of substitutions by both sides but neither could establish any dominance and as time ticked away it looked as if Vienna Suttoners could hang on to their lead.
The referee signalled three minutes added time as Soldiers Return had pushed up all their men including goalkeeper Craig Atkinson to attack a corner and he very nearly scored with a superb shot which was hacked off the line. The ball cleared all 21 players except for Vienna Suttoners' Brad Connell who ran the length of the opposition half and walked the ball into an empty net.
The Referee was Martin Bloor and his Assistants were Peter Carr and Ade Skeates. The Fourth Official was John Foster.
The match ball was sponsored by Hobbs Printers.
The Player of the Match Award went to Vienna Suttoners' Jamie Morgan.
