Young Person's Coaching Scholarship

The Young Person's Coaching Scholarship is a programme for promising young coaches interested in progressing towards a career in football coaching.

The YPCS aims to work with our local universities and grassroots clubs to develop our young coaching workforce with the support of The FA Licensed Coaches programme and The FA Coach Mentor programme.

To be eligible for the programme you must:

  • Be registered as a coach at any Hampshire FA affiliated football club or Hampshire based university and be coaching on a regular basis
  • Hold a valid FA Level 1 coaching qualification with up to date FA Emergency Aid (EA) and FA Safeguarding (SFG) Certificate  (those booked on to an upcoming EA or SFG will be considered for a place on the YPCS)
  • Be a FA Licensed Coaches Club (FALCC) member
  • Commit to attend at least 3 hours of FALCC CPD for the 2016-17 season
  • Commit to attend 3 YPCS Development Workshops across the 2016-17 season 
  • Register with the Hampshire FA Football Futures programme

 In return Hampshire FA will provide the following benefits:

  • Free FALCC CPD workshops
  • FA Football Futures Certification for achieving 10, 25, 50, 75 & 100 hours of volunteering 
  • Access to an experienced FA Coach Mentor to offer coaching support and guidance
  • Access to paid and volunteer coaching opportunities across Hampshire

Development Days

All Development Days will take place outside of academic term time at various locations across Hampshire and will be delivered by a variety of coaches and guest speakers from Hampshire FA and The FA.

Attendance at all Development Days is mandatory.


YPCS Leader Board

New to the YPCS for 2016-17 is the Leader Board. The more that you do to develop yourself as a coach the more points you will score on the leader board. Prizes will be given out quarterly throughout the season (Dec / Feb / April) to the YPCS member in the lead as well as an overall winner at the end of the season.

Score Weighting

Coaching Hours 

Any hours that you are coaching as a volunteer will score you points on the leader board

1 hour = 25 pts


Any CPD hours that you complete on FA recognised CPD courses will score you points on the leader board

 1 hour = 200 pts

Courses Completed

Any FA coaching courses that you complete while you are on the YPCS will score you points on the leader board

1 course = 300 pts

FA Mentor Hours

Any hours spent with a FA Coach Mentor will score you points on the leader board

 1 hour = 50 pts

Applying for YPCS

The application window for the YPCS 2016/2017 has now passed. Entry will open up at the beginning of the 17/18 season.

Terms & Conditions 
  • YPCS is not a full time educational programme.
  • There are only 12 spaces on the scholarship
  • Universities are to nominate coaches to be put forward for the scholarship
