Fleet Line Markers Ltd was established in 1953 by Mr Peter McGuffie and specialised in the manufacture of a product called Fleet Renovator. This was a ‘paste’ that was widely used by the UK's Armed Forces for polishing the webbing on the uniforms, such as the belts, gaiters etc. With the abolition of National Service in 1960, Peter decided to turn his skills in pigmentation towards the production of line marking materials and machinery. Peter McGuffie's son, Iain, joined his father in the Company in the 1980's helping to drive the Company forward even more. Iain, like his father before him, has been responsible for the growth and expansion of the Company in such a way that Fleet now manufacture paints in New Zealand, for the Australasian market and in Nebraska for the US market. As well as these factories, the Head Office and main factory is based in Malvern, Worcestershire.
In the UK, the Company employs over 50 people and has several warehouses across the country. As part of the expansion, the Company has acquired the adjoining premises to their Malvern site. This is destined to house Fleet's BeamRider Company and will also be where some of the Company's new and exciting innovations will be developed in house. The Company employs specialist Electronics Engineers and Software Engineers as well as Chemists and expert line marking sales people. Fleet will continue to manufacture the best quality machines and paints whilst always researching and developing better methods and technologies. The ‘Groundsman Of The Year’ Award recognises the contribution of groundsmen (of which the majority are volunteers) and the important part they play week in and week out to ensure that games are played on quality, high standard pitches. In Hampshire, all nominated grounds are visited by a county judging panel including a professional Groundsman. Judges not only look at the quality of the pitch, but also take into consideration the Groundsman’s skills and knowledge, their ambitions for the pitch, the resources available, how often the pitch is used, and the amount of time they are able to work on the pitch. The Rotary Club of Basingstoke was formed in 1927 and over the years has catalysed many initiatives in and around the local area. The club has raised considerable funds for local as well as international good causes and provided practical support and assistance to many local events and activities.
The club members regularly meet to discuss causes they wish to support and devise a plan of action. In addition, the club has a programme of fun and engaging activities for its members with outings and social events organised throughout the year.
