Penalty King is a brand new penalty tournament organised by specialist football events company CanHeKickIt.com (www.canhekickit.com) and with a top cash prize of £25,000 is sure to captivate the interest of thousands of amateur and semi-professional players. In addition to the top prize runners up will receive £10,000, £5,000, £2,000 and £1,000 respectively for second to fifth positions.
Penalty King is the brainchild of organiser Mark Smith who stumbled upon the idea whilst watching the Champions League final between Liverpool and AC Milan. When Shevchenko's penalty was saved many fans voiced their amazement to see such a poor penalty coming from a £90,000 per week player. “Even I could do better than that”, was the cry of many watching the game at Smith's local pub and so the idea came about to launch Penalty King, a nationwide tournament for men and women aged 16 or over to test their nerves and skill and have the chance to win some seriously worthwhile prize money.
The CanHeKickIt team have already been in contact with over 2000 football clubs in England and the first 200 venues have already been confirmed. During the course of the next few weeks other clubs in England as well as Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales will be offered the opportunity to participate in the tournament which will see the number of venues grow to around 1000. Penalty King is also keen to hear from anyone who owns a suitable field that can be used for the tournament.
Each event will start at 9.30am and finish at 5-30pm. This will allow 210 penalty takers (30 participants per hour) to take part using the two goals. Each round of the tournament involves 8 penalties, all of which must be scored to advance to the next round and be closer to winning one of the five big cash prizes. There will be 3 rounds plus the final, and the dates are:
Round One – July 11th until August 9th
Round Two – August 22nd until August 30th
Round Three – September 5th and 6th
The final is to take place between mid to late September and will be announced by the organisers shortly.
The entry fee to the Penalty King tournament is just £3.50 and players can find out full details and sign up for the event online at www.canhekickit.com/penaltyking, there is no limit on the amount of times any player may enter. Entrants can also discuss the event and join as fans of the tournament on the company’s Facebook page, search for Canhekickit.com Penalty King.
The Penalty King tournament is seen as very much a community event and as such is likely to be attractive to sponsors who can become involved in various aspects of the tournament. First tier sponsorship is available at just £60 +VAT which allows a local business to sponsor their local event and includes a full page A5 colour advertisement within the tournament's brochure handed out to every participant at the event. The organisers are also seeking to secure one or two major sponsors to partner with during the event. All interested parties should contact Mark Smith as early as possible to take full advantage of this opportunity.
“It would be fantastic if we could obtain a sponsor who could help us increase all the prize money amounts, especially the first prize to £50,000 or even £100,000. That would be life-changing for the winner”, says Smith.
