Hampshire FA - developing football for everyone
Governance - safeguarding the game

Vanessa Raynbird has been the manager of the Hampshire FA Women’s team since debut season 1995/96.

The ladies were again competing in the South East Counties Competition in season 2008/09, with their opening fixture at home to Kent in late October last year.

Hampshire then visited Surrey at Camberley in mid-November, and they turned out to be a difficult side when they took the lead after being awarded a penalty early in the second half. Manager Vanessa Raynbird changed the pattern of play and was soon rewarded when Lisa Langrish found the equaliser. The same player then got her second with an outstanding overhead volley, while Gemma Hillier got the third from close range to give Hampshire victory by 3 goals to 1.

Following being awarded 3 points against Oxfordshire who failed to raise a side, Hampshire FA next visited Sussex FA at Lancing FC and were shocked by their opponents who ran out winners by 3 goals to 1. This was the Hampshire FA ladies’ first defeat for almost 5 years and was certainly not on the cards when they took the lead early in the second half through Lynsey Crewe.

After two further wins against Berks & Bucks and Middlesex, Hampshire FA had no choice but to wait patiently at the top of the table for the final fixture between Middlesex FA and Sussex FA to find out whether they would remain in the top spot or end with equal points to Sussex. Hampshire were confirmed as winners when the draw at Middlesex was not quite enough for Sussex to make it through.
