Referee Courses

Thought about becoming a Referee?

Have you ever thought about becoming a qualified referee?
Courses are open to male and female candidates aged 14 or over.

Basic Referee courses are run throughout the year within all parts of the County to allow people become qualified referees. Further courses assist the referee towards promotion and more senior football. Referee promotion is from Level 9 (trainee on course) to Level 1 (Premiership and Football League).

The tuition time inclusive of examinations is 21 hours after which candidates will then be required to complete 6 matches as a referee during which time there will be support and advice of a Mentor/Coach.

Currently courses are run over a 3 week period consisting of 3 Wednesdays and 2 Saturdays. The third Wednesday being the examinations evening which consists of the Football Association Written and Theory Examinations.

On completion of the 6 games candidates will be invited back for an In Service Training Workshop and on completion will be presented with the Football Association Referees' Certificate and will then be qualified as a Level 8 (14-15 year old) or Level 7 (16 years and upwards) Referee.
