What We Do

The staff at the County Office are regularly asked what their respective roles actually entail. Below is a brief overview of what we do:

1. Football is the biggest team sport in England, every week over 90,000 players participate in some form of the game.

2. Facilitated the development of more than 120 projects worth over £27m to improve facilities and fund a huge variety of community and coaching schemes at grassroots level in the County.

3. Hampshire FA is a not-for-profit organisation with an annual turnover of over £1m and any year end surplus is reinvested into provision.

4. Over the next four years Hampshire FA will invest £200,000 into grassroots football to achieve its County Plan.

5. Hampshire FA runs a total of 11 representative teams including Women’s, Girls, Boys, Centres of Excellence and disability sides.

6. Three disability representative teams play in organised competitions at U17 boys, U14 boys and U17 girls through Hampshire FA’s Disability Centre of Excellence.

7. Women’s football is the fastest growing sport in the Country and there are now over 2,500 players in Hampshire.

8. There are now over 5,000 affiliated teams in Hampshire playing in over 100 competitions.

9. There are in excess of 15,000 volunteers working in football in the County keeping the grassroots game alive. Each year Hampshire FA recognises their enormous contribution through the Volunteer Workforce Awards run in partnership with The FA.

10. There are over 1400 referees in Hampshire. Every year the County recruits over 300 new officials and operates support, training and mentoring schemes to try and stop the number decreasing.

11. Hampshire FA is committed to removing any barriers to people of all ethnic backgrounds playing football, with a particular focus on increasing the number of players and developing more coaches into the game.

12. Hampshire FA have established an Equality Advisory Group to ensure equality of opportunity in the game.

13. In the last five years, Hampshire FA has supported over 110 Clubs, involving more than 950 teams, and over 185 Schools to achieve The FA Charter Standard accreditation, a scheme providing qualified coaches, codes of conduct, and a safe environment for children.

14. Hampshire FA has trained over 4,500 coaches since 2002 to gain their Level 1 and 2 qualifications.

15. Over 70,000 boys and girls aged between five and eleven in Hampshire have benefited from The FA Tesco Skills Programme.
16. Small sided football is a huge growth area with over 1600 teams playing in organised competitions as well as introducing mini-soccer as the mandatory game for all players under ten years, creating over 850 teams.

17. Hampshire FA is the sole member of Hampshire FA Community Trust which is a charitable organisation managing our work within community coaching, disability football, social cohesion and international relations.

18. Hampshire FA manages over 30 County Cup Competitions, including the Senior Cup and more recently The County Beach Soccer Cup.

19. Creation of a Patrons Club of sponsors generating in excess of £35,000 per year to support football activities at grassroots level.

20. Hampshire FA employs a professional workforce of 21 members of staff led by Chief Executive, Neil Cassar.
